A day after the viscera report of 24-year-old medical student Mukund Kedia, whose body was found in his car a year ago, showed that he was smothered to death, the Kurla police have registered a case of murder and have started investigations.

Kedia’s body was found in his Santro, parked at CST road at Kurla (West), on May 4, 2010.

The Kurla police, who registered a case of murder on Monday following the viscera report sent by Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), will question Kedia’s family members and his fellow students at GS Medical College, attached to KEM Hospital.

The Kurla police had lodged an accidental death report.

Dr Subodh Kedia, Mukund’s uncle, said: “We are not aware that the Kurla police have registered a murder case. We suspected something amiss right from the day we found his body.”

Kedia had left his JB Nagar residence at Andheri (East) for his college on May 3 in his car. The police found his body in his car by tracking his mobile phone. “We will question those who knew Kedia and will check his call records,” said police inspector R Jadhav.
