Sources claimed that the crime branch is likely to question Femida's brother Iqbal Rafiq Shaikh alias Iqbal Madrasi alias Bhalu, who is lodged in Arthur Road jail following his arrest in connection with an extortion case in 2006.

He had been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (Mcoca) after his links with key Dawood Ibrahim aide, Fahim Machmach, were disclosed. Incidentally, Machmach's residence is located in Peru Lane, too.

Iqbal was also arrested in connection with 5-6 criminal cases by the Dongri police in the past.

Sources claimed that Iqbal had a property dispute with Femida. Sources quoting claims made by neighbours said that Iqbal's wife had visited Femida sometime back, after a long time, since the brother and sister's relations were strained.

Sources also claimed that the sleuths are likely to question some henchmen of a notorious diesel smuggler from the locality. Femida could have incurred the wrath of the smuggler, who is lodged in judicial custody, for representing some of his rivals in court.
