A crime branch team has left for Allahabad to retrieve the headless body of aspiring actor Minakshi Thapa, 26, who had been kidnapped and later murdered by two junior film artistes over ransom demands.

On Saturday, the police had arrested the killers – Amitkumar Jaiswal, 36, and Preeti Surin (26), both from Allahabad, though the body is still to be traced.

As per Jaiswal’s revelations, they had severed Thapa’s head from her body. While the body was dumped in a water tank, the head was disposed of during transit in a bus between Allahabad and Lucknow.

Additional commissioner of police, crime, Deven Bharati, said on Monday that the crime branch team would be conducting searches at the residence of Jaiswal where the headless body had been dumped in a water tank.

The crime branch team will also be inquiring with various police stations between Allahabad and Lucknow to know the whereabouts of her head.

Thapa, an aspiring actor from Dehradun, who found work as a junior artiste in National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie Heroine had moved to Mumbai two months ago. She had allegedly been taken to Gorakhpur on March 12 under the pretext of an acting assignment and murdered after her captors — whom she met on the sets of Heroine — realised her family could not pay the entire Rs 15 lakh ransom demanded by them.

The crime branch arrested Jaiswal, a former lawyer, and his accomplice Preeti Surin, both residents of Allahabad, from Bandra on Saturday. A holiday court on Sunday remanded the accused in police custody till April 23.
