A teenage couple in Delhi was allegedly gagged with dirty household rags, flogged with iron rods and electrocuted by the girl’s family, the police said, in a suspected case of honour killing.

Asha Saini and Yogesh Kumar — both 19-year-olds from north-east Delhi — were brutally murdered after she refused to stop seeing her “poor cabbie friend”.

Asha’s father Suraj Kumar Saini and uncle Om Prakash have been arrested, police said.

Asha’s family had forcibly got her engaged to a property dealer in Haryana, but she refused to change her mind about Kumar. “The girl had been staying at Om Prakash’s home since her May engagement,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

When the threats failed, the family called Kumar to her uncle’s home on Sunday on the pretext of discussing their relationship and killed them.
