A husband-wife duo was killed when a cement concrete mixer truck hit their bike from behind near Mahim causeway around 8 pm on Monday.

The police said Noor Mohammed Quereshi (28) was driving the bike while his wife Heena (25) was riding pillion. The couple was on their way to their Dockyard Road residence in south Mumbai.

“The couple were riding on a red Bajaj Pulsar when the cement concrete mixer truck hit them from behind,” said Abdul Khan (57), an eyewitness.

“The impact of the hit was such that Quereshi was thrown out on the middle of the road, and some speeding vehicles passed over him, leading to

his death on the spot,” said Prakash George, senior inspector of Bandra police station.

The officials said Heena, too, sustained serious injuries on her head. Some commuters took her to the nearby Bhabha civic hospital in Bandra (West).

“She was bleeding internally, which lead to her death later at the hospital,” said another police official requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Locals and commuters stopped the truck and handed over the driver of the cement concrete mixer, Ratan Dulal Sen (25), to the police. Sen has been charged with causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

The relatives of the deceased told the police that Noor used to run a shop in Dockyard Road and they had gone to meet someone in Malvani.
