A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday asked Indrani Mukerjea to take medicines after jail authorities lodged a complaint saying she was refusing to take the medication prescribed by the doctor.

The jail authorities, in their report about Indrani’s health, have said she has been refusing to take medicines and keeps walking in her barrack. Quoting the report, the special CBI judge reprimanded Indrani for not taking her medicine. “Why did you not take your medicines for blood pressure and threw it? What if your health is affected?,” the court asked her.

Replying to the court, Indrani said that she had not had her blood pressure medicines on Monday. The court then reprimanded her and asked her to follow the instructions of the doctor. It also directed her lawyer, Gunjan Mangala, to instruct her to take her medicines.

Meanwhile, the court came down heavily on the Thane jail authorities for not producing Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai, a co-accused in the case, on the fourth occasion even after the court’s order.

The three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case – Indrani, her husband Peter Mukerjea and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna - were produced before the court on Monday. The Thane jail authorities claimed Rai could not be produced as there are not enough escorts.

Annoyed by this reply, the court threatened the jail authorities of serious action if Rai is not produced before the court during the next hearing. “The jail authorities were given specific directions to produce him before the court. However, they have not produced him saying there are not enough escorts. They should have spoken to the police chief and made arrangements accordingly,” the court said.

The court has now asked the jail authorities to produce Rai on May 11.
