A day after the protest at Diva station, Central Railway (CR) officials have promised to complete construction work on the foot over bridge (FOB) by September.
They have also promised to improve the station premises of this junction station, where several long distance trains halt.
This came up at an hour-long meeting between CR officials and passenger associations on July 5. Sources in the CR said the associations have submitted their set of demands, which would also be completed along with the construction of the FOB.
“We have set a target of September-end, but we will try to construct the FOB before that,” said R Jain, divisional railway manager (Mumbai), CR. The railway authorities were to complete work on this FOB by June 30 but couldn’t due to administrative issues.
The CR officials have asked the members from the passenger association to monitor work and also meet them in case they find anything wrong with the construction, until work is completed.
Initially, they had demanded this FOB to be completed by August-end before the start of Ganesh festival.
“CR authorities have also promised to build a ticket counter on the east side of Diva station, which at present doesn’t exist,” said Madhu Kotian, member, Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh.
On July 4, services on CR were partially hit between 8am-9.45 am after passengers protested at the station.
