The Central Railway's (CR) Mumbai division has proposed two additional subways at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

The CR is planning to construct the subways towards on both sides of Walchand Hirachand Marg (the road near General Post Office) and from DN Road towards Fort.

Though the detailed study of the project worth Rs. 100 crore is yet to be conducted, CR has prepared a preliminary line diagram and submitted it to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for approval.

In the line diagram, the subway has two entry points, one from the back-end of CST, going towards the BEST depot and GPO and other from the existing subway towards Fort.

"Presently, people going to Fort have to walk on the footpath adjacent to CST and cross the roads amidst heavy traffic to take a taxi. Therefore, we have planned to construct a subway on DN Road. This will go under the main road," said Mukesh Nigam, Mumbai division, divisional railway manager.

Similarly, another subway will start at the walkway and will connect across Walchand Hirachand Marg.

"People face huge trouble while walking through this passage as both taxis and buses come in the way. This subway will provide hassle free walk to pedestrians," said a senior official.
