The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to book three policemen for murder in the Altaf Sheikh (22) custodial death case.

The police had claimed Sheikh died from a drug overdose but a post-mortem report said his body had external and internal injuries and there was no evidence of drug use.

Rejecting the state's plea for a stay so that the matter could be appealed in the Supreme Court, a division bench of the court ordered the immediate suspension of the three officers and said they “neither trust the executive magistrate nor the DCB-CID [Crime Branch] to conduct a fair inquiry”.
