Thousands of Dawoodi Bohras gathered on the streets of Bhendi Bazaar on Friday to catch a glimpse (deedar) of their spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, who visited the Raudat Tahera mausoleum on the eve of his 102nd birthday.
The Syedna is in the city for his birthday after two years, having brought in his 101st birthday in Surat. The Syedna’s health has been a matter of concern, and on Friday, he arrived at 10pm owing to a slight deterioration in his health, said sources.
Bohris of all ages stood for hours on footpaths and road dividers to get a vantage view of the Syedna and his son and heir-apparent Maulayi Mufaddil Bhaisaheb Saifuddin.
“I have been here since afternoon and feel blessed to have seen them pass by,” said
thirteen-year-old Munira Sidhpurwala.
“Several followers have come from overseas to meet the Syedna and it is our pleasure to host them,” said Kulsum Bohra, a Mazgaon resident who has been hosting guests for the past week. Bohris from several countries such as the United States, Bahrain and Bangla-desh were also present on Friday.
On the occasion of the Syedna’s 102nd birthday on Saturday, Maulayi Mufaddil Bhaisaheb Saiffudin will deliver a discourse to community members that will be witnessed by Dawoodi Bohras across the world.
