The referendum started by the India Against Corruption (IAC), Mumbai, regarding the proposed Lokpal Bill received a strong response from people on the first day.
“I strongly feel all authorities including people’s representatives and the judiciary should come under Lokpal. It’s time for everyone in the nation to be accountable for their actions,” said Simran Chhabria, 33, a fashion designer.
IAC volunteers are distributing slips with three yes/no questions that respondents must answer, add their contact information and place the slip in a sealed box. The referendum campaign will end on July 1.
“We have received massive response from people. However, we want more people, especially youngsters, to know about the Lokpal bill and how it will affect their nation’s future,” said Nitin Gadekar, IAC volunteer.
The opinion poll was conducted in teams at Khar, Chembur, Thane, Nerul, Vashi, Churchgate, Bandra, Dombivli, Borivli, Kandivli, Bhandup, Ghatkopar and Mira Road railway stations. The volunteers were also present at Santacruz, Bandra, Juhu Beach and other public places.
