Three persons, including two minor boys, allegedly raped a 13-year-old deaf and mute girl in Bhandup on Monday.

The police said that the accused and victim are residents of same slum, Jamat chawl, and are known to each other. While the police have nabbed two of them, a 16-year-old is on the run. The police have booked the accused for wrongful confinement and gang rape.

According to Satish Gaikwad, sub-inspector of Bhandup police station, the three accused convinced the girl to accompany them to the house of Shivkumar Jaiswal alias Kalu, 23, at around 2pm, where they raped her.

The police said that the accused are school dropouts and are known to the girl, who studies in the ninth standard. The police said that the victim’s mother began searching for the girl when she did not return home, and reached Kalu’s house after some children playing nearby tipped her off.

Sriranga Nadgauda, senior inspector of Bhandup police station said, “Nobody else apart from the children playing outside saw them go into the house. We are questioning them.”

When the girl indicated what had happened, the mother rushed to the police station and registered a case. A medical test was conducted on the victim at the Nagpada police hospital, the details of which are awaited.

The victim is third of the four siblings. While her mother is a housemaid, her father does odd jobs to earn a living.
