In a daytime robbery on the Eastern Express Highway, a gang of five looted two men of 1.4kg gold worth Rs 40 lakh and Rs 1.86 lakh in cash in Ghatkopar (East) on Saturday. The Pant Nagar police said the accused robbed the gold dealers on gunpoint and fled towards Thane.

The dealers, Bhavesh Sanghvi and Dipesh Solanki, were riding on an Activa scooter on the service road of the highway near Chheda Nagar at 2.30pm when they were hit by a stone flung by a member of the gang.

As soon as they slowed down, another accused pushed the scooter onto the floor. One of them then brandished a gun and asked the duo to step away from the two-wheeler, in whose boot the gold and cash was kept. Suresh Nirmal, senior inspector of Pant Nagar police station, said, "While four of them escaped in the car they had parked nearby, one drove away the scooter."

The victims found the two-wheeler abandoned a few metres away, but the valuables were missing.
