Take a final decision by October 6 on the order granting stay on revision of rates for slaughter of animals at Deonar abattoir, the Bombay High Court told Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Wednesday.
The direction was given by Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More on a petition filed by NGO Viniyog Parivar.
Prafulla Shah, counsel for the petitioner, argued that there was no provision in law under which such a stay could be granted. The NGO had moved court last year seeking a direction municipal corporation for revising rates as the charges had not been increased in the last 10 years and the slaughter house was suffering losses of more than Rs 100 crore.
Accordingly, the civic body revised the rates and the matter was disposed of. However, on August 6, 2009, the CM had stayed the revised rates on a plea by a local MLA, the NGO said. The NGO members met Chavan and submitted a representation to lift the stay. But when they did not get a response, the NGO moved court.
