Dismissed encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma’s wife approached the sessions court on Saturday seeking direction against the Thane jail authorities for shifting Sharma to Nashik jail as he has a threat to his life.

However, Principal Judge ML Tahilyani refused to pass any order and observed that it was jail authorities prerogative to decide shifting of accused from one jail to the other.

Swikriti Sharma, in her application filed on June 5, said Thane Hospital staff were informed that Sharma would be shifted to Nashik jail as there is a likely threat to his life from the Chhota Rajan gang members at the Thane prison.

Swikriti, said that Deputy Commissioner of Police KMM Prasanna had informed the magistrate that only the Thane Central Prison was the safest place for Sharma.

According to Swikriti, Sharma had made an application in the court seeking information whether he is likely to be shifted to Nashik jail but the application is pending in the court.

Swikiriti, in her application, said that Sharma’s life at Nashik prison would be at a grave risk as one of his informant O P Singh was murdered in the Nashik jail allegedly by Chotta Rajan gang members.

According to the application, unless the jail authorities give complete information regarding their intentions and necessity to shift Sharma he should not be removed (from Thane Prison).

Assurances regarding the safety and protection of his life of Sharma should be given by the authorities, said Sharma's wife.

The court has not passed any order, so Swikriti will now file an application before the Inspector General (prisons) said Sharma's, advocates Dheeraj Dhutmal and Rahul Arote.

Sharma was arrested in January along with two constables in connection with an alleged fake encounter case of Rajan aide Ram Narayan alias Lakhan Bhaiya on November 11, 2006, near the Nana-Nani park in Versova, in 2006. Sharma was involved in over 100 encounters.
