The doctor wanted to discharge the patient, but the latter refused to go home, saying he was still unwell. It led to a bit of a fracas at BSES Hospital in Andheri (W) on Saturday morning.
Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi of MIDC police station has been admitted to the hospital since a couple of days after he complained of chest pain and high blood pressure.
On Saturday morning, the hospital authorities reportedly wanted to discharge Suryavanshi, who insisted that he was still not hale and hearty.
A surgeon, identified as Dr B. More, had reportedly told Suryavanshi to get discharged.
“He [the doctor] did not listen though the patient said he was still not feeling well,” said a relative of Suryavanshi. “The doctor insisted on discharging him, saying he was Pradeep Sharma’s man and should not be here,” said the relative.
Suryavanshi’s relatives, who were at the hospital, objected to it, which lead to a commotion at the hospital, said the relative.
Suryavanshi is one of the prime accused in the death of Ram Narayan Gupta, who was allegedly killed in a fake police encounter in 2006.
Six people, including dismissed encounter specialist Sharma, have already been arrested in the case.
Repeated attempts by Hindustan Times to contact the hospital’s spokesperson to confirm the incident proved futile.
However, a note regarding this has been registered in the station diary of DN Nagar police station.
“The matter was later sorted out,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Dilip Suryavanshi, who is also Suryavanshi’s brother.
