Vishnunagar Police Station has arrested Prashant Shinde, 28 and his wife Priya Vaidya-Shinde, 26, for allegedly cheating more than 100 people for lakhs of rupees with promises of providing them jobs through the Internet.

“Shinde and his wife cheated me and others, promising us data entry jobs through the Internet,” Sagar Vithoba Chikane, 27, one of the victims said.

Chikane had come to hear of the job through a friend and had visited the couple’s office, Avinesh Data Management, in Gopi Mall, Dombivli West.

Shinde and his wife promised Chikane pay ranging from Rs. 1.20 to 4.20 for the data entries. To join, Chikane would have to deposit Rs. 12,500 to the company, which would be returned after a year.

Chikane made 2500 entries in his first month of work in January, but was paid only Rs. 2000, and when he asked the couple to pay the balance, they told him he would get it the next month.

The couple is yet to pay him and several others. A group of more than fifty victims lodged a complaint in the Vishnunagar police station, following which the police arrested the couple under IPC 420 and 406. Police added the fraud amount ran into lakhs of rupees and a clear figure will emerge after all the victims made their statements.
