The Kherwadi police have recorded the statements of 15 passengers travelling in the double decker BEST bus that overturned at Kala Nagar on Friday evening. All passengers, the police said, have said the accident occurred because the driver was speeding.

“All passengers in the bus had begged him to slow down, but he ignored us. He took a sharp turn at the same speed and the bus overturned,” a passenger, who is currently recuperating at Bhabha hospital, told police.

The police said the RTO inspection report of the bus arrived on Saturday and revealed there were no mechanical issues with the vehicle.

“The driver claimed the biker coming from the opposite side ignored the signal and hence, he had to take an emergency right turn. He claimed he had not been speeding. However, the RTO report revealed that the accident occurred owing to human error on his part,” said inspector DA Mulla of Kherwadi police station.
