Driver flees with employer’s car, Rs 6 lakh kept inside

The Amboli police have registered a case of theft against a 24-year-old driver who drove away with his employer’s car which also had cash in it.

The entire valuables stolen is Rs 13.5 lakh.

The police said the complainant Jeetendra Yerangale (40), a resident of Versova, had a meeting in Andheri and asked his driver Baljeet Verma to drive him there.

Around 1.30 pm on Thursday, they reached Laxmi Industrial Estate following which instructed he his driver to take care of the briefcase, containing Rs 6 lakh in cash till he returned.

Senior Inspector Kailash Ghamande of Amboli police station said, “After Yerangale's meeting with another estate agent ended, he came down only to find his driver and the car missing.”

Yerangale tried to get in touch with the Verma, but his mobile phone was switched off. He then registered a complaint with the Amboli police.

“Verma had been employed around 20 days ago on the reference of a friend Naresh Yerange, who runs a photo studio. Verma had been working with Yerange around five years ago and approached him again for a job and was referred to the complainant,” said a police official.

The police added that Jeetendra employed Verma without any police verification.

In a similar incident, on Wednesday an employee of jewellery unit in Seepz, Andheri (E), who was sent to the State Bank of India branch to withdraw Rs 5 lakh by the manager, made away with the cash and the motorbike of the manager. None of the employees of the unit know where the accused resides.
