On February 11, Saroj picked up a consignment of 25 tonnes of iron bars from Ganpat Enterprises in Thane, to be delivered to a construction site of HDIL at Four Bungalows in Andheri.

“On his way, Saroj halted at Govandi where an accomplice was waiting for him. He removed six tonnes of iron rods from the trailer before heading for Andheri,” said an officer with the Amboli police station.

On receiving the delivery, the site supervisor discovered that six tones were missing.

He subsequently lodged a complaint with the Amboli police. Saroj was picked up from his residence in Saki Naka and after sustained interrogation, confessed to having stolen the iron bars.

“Saroj confessed to having committed several such thefts over the last year with the help of one of his accomplices. He would later sell off the loot to scrap dealers,” added the officer.
