The RCF police on Friday arrested a 48-year-man for allegedly stabbing his friend with the intention of robbing his ornaments worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh. One of his accomplices is still at large.

Police records claim that Nitin Parab is friend of accused Arif Khan (36), who is an employment agent. Khan owed Rs 1 lakh to Parab but was unable to repay due to financial problems.

To recover the money Parab took Khan's help and decided to target his friend Pawan Kumar Jain (42), who owns a jewellery shop in Chembur.

Parab offered to drop Jain to his residence in DK Sandu road in Chembur on Friday.

Khan too got into the car and sat beside Jain, while Parab drove the car. On the way, Khan stabbed the victim with a sharp weapon. “During the struggle the victim's hand banged against the rear windshield which broke and a passerby noticed,” said Inspector Prasad Dharia.

Locals surrounded the car, but Khan managed to escape. Jain was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
