The MIDC police at Andheri (E) on Friday arrested a dumper driver for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a motorbike, leading to the death of a 22-year-old man.

The arrested accused has been identified as Amasa Sheikh (35), a resident of Bhamandaya pada at Powai. Police said that at 6 pm on Friday, the victim, Wasim Sheikh (22), a courier executive, was commuting on the motorbike.

Witnesses said Sheikh was driving rashly and rammed into Wasim's bike. Wasim was seriously injured in the head. Pedestrians and locals rushed him to RN Cooper Hospital at Juhu, where he was declared dead around two hours later, due to heavy bleeding.

After witnesses gave police Sheikh's vehicle number, a police team traced and arrested him the same night. "The accused has been charged with rash and negligent driving," said a police officer from MIDC police station on condition of anonymity.

The police have also seized Sheikh's vehicle for further investigation.
