The 35-year-old electrician from Hanuman Nagar area who allegedly tried to kill a 14-year-old boy has been undergoing medical tests.
Subhash Tondalkar had smashed Tushar Kamble’s head with a stone on Saturday evening.
After some locals told the Bhandup police that Tondalkar appeared to be mentally unstable, the police decided to send him to the hospital for tests. The police have been unable to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
Senior police inspector Vilas Shinde said, “We have sent him for medical tests to find out if he is mentally stable or not. We are waiting for the results.”
“After attacking Kamble, Tondalkar himself rushed him to the hospital. A few months back, Tondalkar had also attacked the victim’s father,” Shinde added.
Kamble is out of danger and managed to tell the police that Tondalkar had attacked him.
Tondalkar was known to be close friends with the teenagers from the area, including the victim, and would often be seen with them.
An officer, requesting anonymity said, “The victim’s family has alleged that Tondalkar tried to kill their son as part of a child sacrifice ritual. In cases of child sacrifice one finds things like vermilion powder, camphor, and similar remains which we haven’t found from the spot.”
“We suspected that there might have been an enmity between the family of the victim and accused. However, we spoke to Kambles and they have denied any fights with Tondalkar,” said the officer.
The officer also denied the possibility of the boy being sexually harassed by the accused.
Tondalkar was arrested from the Hanuman Nagar area in Bhandup where he attempted to kill Kamble by smashing his head with a stone.
Kamble, a Class 10 student from the same area managed to run away.
