While the city is gearing up for the 100% water cuts from January 10-12, most areas in south Mumbai will face “emergency water cuts” on Friday and Saturday because of the leaking old Bhandarwada main at the Mahim Koliwada.

Officials of the civic hydraulic department said there is an urgent need to plug the major leakage on the old Bhandarwada main at Dharavi Anchor block, Mahim Koliwada.

Repair work on the main water pipeline, which gets supply from Upper Vaitarana lake, will be carried out from 10am on Friday until 4pm the next day.

Due to the work, Friday evening water supply to Dharavi will be curtailed.

In addition, there will be 20% cut in water supply to the Malabar Hill and Worli Hill reservoirs.

Therefore, supply from Cuffe Parade to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus area, Girgaum, Malabar Hill and nearby areas, and the Worli BDD chawl will be affected. Bandra (West), which gets water from the Pali Hill reservoir, will also get less supply, said civic officials.
