The Dongri police on Saturday registered a case of theft against an employee of a jewellery showroom in Byculla who allegedly stole gold and silver ornaments collectively worth more than Rs 50 lakh.
On Saturday morning, when Ramesh Jain, the owner of GM Jewellers located in the Noor Baugh area of Byculla, reached his shop, he found the door unlocked. Inside the shop, he found several ornaments missing. His employee, Brijesh Kumar, 22, who used to sleep in the shop, was missing too.
Jain informed the Dongri police and a case of robbery was registered. Jain had recruited Kumar, who had migrated from Uttar Pradesh, last month without any verification.
“The shop owner does not have a single photograph of Kumar. It is very difficult to track him down as he does not even have his proper address,” said a police officer from Dongri police station, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The police will now prepare a sketch of Kumar based on the description given by Jain and circulate it to all police stations in the city.
They will also keep a close watch on railway stations because they suspect Kumar might try to leave the city.
