Engineering student from UP nabbed for carrying pistol

Mumbai: A 23-year-old engineering student of Uttar Pradesh was nabbed by the Mumbai crime branch recently for carrying a pistol in Dadar. During interrogation, police learnt that the accused, Jitendra Virendra Sharma wanted to earn easy money and make a name for himself in the city.

He contacted his friend residing in Navi Mumbai, who has more than ten cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh and some registered in the city.

Sharma’s friend advised him to buy a pistol from UP and come to Mumbai where he would help him establish himself. Sharma’s friend is absconding and officers of the unit 8 of the Mumbai crime branch have been looking for him.

Sharma is a native of Karchana in Allahabad. He was doing his second year engineering from a college in Varanasi. He purchased the pistol from UP for Rs 30,000, said a crime branch officer.

Officers of the unit 8 of the crime branch received a tip off that Sharma was coming to meet his friend near Plaza cinema in Dadar. Police inspector Ravrane and PSI Patil along with police constable Ravindra Mane, Praveen Agavale and Ullhas Sawant laid a trap and nabbed him.
