Real estate agent Satyanarayan Chandrabhan Gupta, 45, arrested on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl from Powai, earlier worked as a vegetable vendor in the area, police said.
That is how he met accused Shanta Gaikwad who allegedly forced the girl into prostitution, an IPS officer said. Gaikwad, a housemaid from the Filterpada area of Powai, was arrested on November 2. Former senior police inspector of LT Marg police station Arun Borude has also been named as an accused.
“Gaikwad had forced the girl into having sexual relations with the four accused — Borude, Gupta and real estate agent Mohanchand Shyam, 45, and another accused who is absconding,” the officer said.
According to the officer, Gupta and Shyam met a few years ago and started a real estate business. “Gupta was the one who introduced Shyam and another youth working for them to Gaikwad.
“Borude did not know the other accused. Gaikwad was the only common link,” he said, adding that Mohan, Gupta and the unidentified accused raped the girl in a rented flat at Chandivli.
Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, western region, said: “The details will be clearer once Borude is arrested.”
