Former minister Madhukar Pichad on Sunday replaced state Home Minister R.R. Patil as the new president of Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra, while former corporator Narendra Verma was made party’s Mumbai unit chief.

“The appointments were made after a meeting of senior party leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Water Resources Minister Ajit Pawar, Patil and senior ministers and office bearers,” a party leader said.

Pichad is an MLA from Akole assembly constituency in Ahmednagar district.
