Being externed from the city for a year did not make Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, 28, change his ways.

In just seven months after his return to the city, Ansari was back to business. He was recently arrested for robbing the Bandra residence of actor Dino Morea.

On March 15, 2011, the Khar police had externed Ansari from the city limits for a year. At the time he was caught stealing from the Worli residence of former minister Rohidas Patil.

“Ansari and two other criminals, Guddu and Firoz, were externed from the city. His externment period ended and he was allowed into the city on March 15,” said Mangesh Pote, senior inspector, Khar police station.

Pote said there were seven cases of house break-ins and molestation of a foreign national registered against Ansari with the Khar police.

An officer said on condition of anonymity: “Ansari knows the loopholes in the law. Hence, every time he was arrested, he would manage to secure bail, and then go back to stealing. After this continued for some time, a decision was taken to extern him.”

Apart from Khar police station, there are around 19 cases registered against Ansari at the Byculla police station.

Another officer said, “Ansari is a hardened criminal and even though he has been externed from the area it has not stopped him. While he was arrested in connection with the theft at Dino Morea’s residence, it is possible that he may have targeted a few others houses soon after returning to the city. We will be interrogating him to find out about his involvement in other cases.”
