Sanjay R Pandey, who posed as an employee of a well-known private bank, to dupe people to the tune of lakhs of rupees, was arrested by the Andheri police on Sunday.

The 32-year-old has been arrested on charges of fraud and forgery.

Three complaints against Pandey were registered till Sunday. Dharmesh Pandya, one of the complainants and a real estate investor by profession, said: “I was introduced to Pandey by a common acquaintance. He posed as a wealth manager associated with the ICICI bank and said that four flats confiscated by the bank from defaulters were to be auctioned. I was interested in the deal. As per the procedure for auction, I made three separate payments of Rs6 lakh, Rs18 lakh and Rs14 lakh respectively. I lost the money and didn’t get the flats too.”

Another complainant Ashok Musle claimed that to repay his loan, he gave Pandey a cheque of Rs3.5 lakh in favour of the bank. However, using some chemicals, Pandey allegedly erased the name of the payee and deposited the amount to his own account.

Both Pandya and Musle said that they did not suspect Pandey as he claimed that he was an ICICI bank employee and met them at the JB Nagar branch office of the bank.

A spokesperson of the bank said: “Sanjay Pandey is not an employee of the bank, he fradulantly posed as an agent of ICICI Direct, the bank is fully cooperating with the police in this matter.”
