A 45-year-old labourer died and another person was injured after a molded iron rod came crashing on to them at a construction site in Mahim on Friday.
The Mahim police have registered a case of death due to negligence and are further probing the incident to find out who is responsible.
At around 4.15pm on Friday, the heavy metal rod fell on Sunil Sarkar, 45 and Mohammad Khan, 43.
While Sarkar sustained severe injuries on his head and died on the spot, Khan suffered a fracture on his left shoulder.
Sarkar, say police could not survive the accident was declared dead on arrival after being rushed to a nearby hospital. “Soon after the incident, Sarkar and Khan were rushed to a nearby hospital where Sarkar was declared dead on arrival,” said Dashrath Patil, senior inspector of Mahim police station.
The police were informed about the incident, following which they registered a case against the concerned authority of the construction company.
The police are now probing who was responsible for the accident.
The officials are currently recording the statement of the labourers, supervisor and others who were present at the spot.
While the family members of the deceased have been informed about the incident, Khan is still recuperating in the hospital.
Sarkar’s body would be handed over to the family after conducting postmortem, police said.
A case under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) has been registered and further probe is underway.
