With a family of seven, including a handicapped father to look after, 35-year-old Rashid Shaikh who lost his life in Sunday's accident was the sole breadwinner of the family. His wife and two children, including a two-month-old son, are yet to come to terms with the harsh reality, said relatives.
"Our heart goes out for his kids. His wife is traumatised. She has been incessantly crying since we broke the news to her. His father cannot see and it is terrible for him to know about his son's demise," said Adam, Shaikh's maternal uncle who was at the family's Vakola residence on Monday afternoon.
Rashid is survived by his wife, a two-month old son, a six-year-old daughter and his parents along with an uncle and an aged grandmother. The family of eight lived in a chawl at Azgar Ali Compound in Vakola, Santacruz (East).
He was on his way to Mira Road to meet Adam on Sunday morning when the speeding Honda City car hit his motorbike. "His death is going to be a life-long grievance for us. He was coming to my residence at Mira Road when the unfortunate accident happened; he had told me that he would meet me soon," said Adam.
