A couple committed suicide last Thursday after allegedly feeding their younger daughter poison following the death of their elder daughter.

The statement of Shweta Ganguly (9), who is battling for her life at Bhagwati hospital, was taking by the Navghar police.

On April 15, Dijen Ganguly (39), a Santacruz-based jeweller, and Madhuri (35) had allegedly entered into a suicide pact at their rented flat at Bhayandar East after their 16-year-old daughter, Suvarna died of cancer last Wednesday.

Shweta in her statement said her parents made her drink medicine on the night of April 15 after which her health worsened.

“At around 11.30 pm, while I was in deep sleep, my parents woke me up and told me to drink some medicine saying that it was good for health. They also added they had already consumed it,” told Shweta in her statement.

Shweta is a Class 2 student at a private school in Bhayandar. “My parents were very disturbed after Suvarna’s death,” added Shweta.
