Bollywood producer Gaurang Doshi, on Friday, offered to pay Rs2.5 crore as permanent alimony to his estranged wife Madhuri.
The parties, however, could not reach a settlement and the issue is likely to be decided upon on June 19.
Madhuri had approached the Bombay high court in 2010, seeking enhancement of the monthly maintenance of Rs50,000 granted to her by a Bandra family court.
On Friday, Doshi quoted Rs 2.5 crore in case of an amicable settlement. However, Madhuri, through her counsel Satish Maneshinde, agreed to settle for Rs2.5 crore as permanent alimony if Doshi was willing to produce the amount immediately.
Doshi expressed his inability to give her the amount immediately due to poor performance of his previous film.
“Once a woman is accustomed to a particular lifestyle, it is difficult for her to change,” said justice PB Majumdar, citing claims made by Maneshinde that in the past the film producer had been taking his wife and daughter on chartered flights.
Doshi has produced films such as Aanken (2002) and Deewar (2004). He has been involved in litigation with his wife, Madhuri, since 2006 after she alleged that he had harassed her for dowry.
