The fire department has inspected all the locations US president Barack Obama is scheduled to visit during his two-day visit to the city.
Teams of officers on Monday inspected the Taj and the Trident hotels where Obama and his personnel will be staying and have given the internal fire-fighting system of both hotels their stamp of approval.
Officials also surveyed Mani Bhavan, St Xavier’s College and Holy Name school, all places Obama is scheduled to visit.
“All three locations have been asked to refill their empty fire extinguishers and get more fire extinguishers as stand-by,” said a senior fire brigade officer, requesting anonymity.
The officer said the fire department has asked the school, college and the museum to keep their passages and open spaces free of clutter. “We will be deploying a fire engine at each of these locations,” the officer said.
“The students of Holy Name school were going to perform a dance with diyas in their hands, but the US secret service agents have asked them not to use the diyas,” the officer added.
On Saturday, five US secret service officials met two senior fire officers to determine the fire brigade’s response time in case of a fire and quizzed them on the kind of equipment available and the kind of emergencies the department can
Another meeting has been scheduled on Tuesday between the US agents and the fire department.
