The state secretariat has asked the security agency which installed the CCTV network in Vidhan Bhavan if it can extract the footage of the March 19 incident in which a police sub-inspector was thrashed by a group of legislators from its hard disk. The secretariat officials said they would hand over the hard disk to the crime branch of Mumbai police if the specific footage cannot be extracted.

Principal secretary of state legislature Anant Kalse said his office has written to the agency enquiring about the feasibility of extracting the footage from the hard disk on which the footage of the CCTV network installed in Vidhan Bhavan premises and two houses of the legislature is recorded every day.

“We received a letter from the crime branch on March 21 asking for the footage of March 19 incident. The footage was captured on the hard disk of the common server and it cannot be easily extracted because of technical reasons. Realising this, the same day, we wrote to the agency that installed the CCTV network about its feasibility,” he added.

Kalse said the state legislature has not refused to give the footage and it wants to cooperate with the police. “We have been positive about cooperation to the police. The delay is due to technical reasons. The decision would be taken on Monday,” he said.

Kalse also said that the secretariat has received only one letter from the crime branch in this regard. The secretariat had received another letter, but that was regarding permission for the crime branch officers to enter the premises, he added.
