Business rivalry prompted them to abduct and kill him. But the poultry manager was lucky as policemen on patrol duty rescued him in the nick of time.

Mohammed Hussain (32), manager of a poultry in Malad, was allegedly abducted by a business rival and four of his accomplices on Wednesday.

The police said the owner of the poultry where Hussain works, Abdullah Khan (40), had a flourishing business. As he sold poultry products at lower prices, he ate into rivals’ profits.

One such rival, Santosh Pandey (32), who was incurring losses decided to teach Khan a lesson by kidnapping Hussain, his business aide, the police said.

Pandey and four others abducted Hussain. They planned to kill him and dump the body in Mira Road.

“Hussain, who was screaming for help, was heard by a police patrol team which rescued him,” said Police Sub-Inspector Vikas Padale.

Pandey and five of his accomplices who were arrested from the spot have been remanded in police custody till Monday.
