The Gamdevi police arrested five people for allegedly manhandling a traffic constable at Gamadia junction, Peddar Road, on Sunday.

Constable Sachin Bangar, who was manhandled and pushed to the ground by the miscreants, was taken to hospital and discharged after treatment.

Police said the incident occurred around 5.45 pm on Sunday, when traffic constables spotted six men on three motorbikes speeding on Peddar Road.

“They were without helmets and the constables asked them to slow down. The group, however, abused the constables and sped off,” said Nitin Mahadik, sub-inspector, Gamdevi police station.

The constables followed them and caught five of the group members while one of the men escaped. Sudhir Dave, assistant police inspector, said while Bangar was trying to detain them, they pushed him to the ground. Bangar was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
