A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour on Tuesday evening at Antop Hill, after he lured her with the promise of biscuits.
Police said Chhotu Prasad Trivedi, 22, who is a tanker driver by profession and originally hails from Jharkhand, took the girl to the mezzanine floor of his residence in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar slums in Antop Hill, where he sexually assaulted her around 6pm on Tuesday.
"Chhotu performed oral sex on the child. When she started crying, he panicked and left her outside the house. When the child went home, she started vomiting, but did not say anything to her mother," said Rajdoot Rupwate, assistant commissioner of police. "But, hours after she went to sleep, she started having nightmares. Around 3am, she started crying inconsolably," said Roopwate. Upon probing, the child's mother learnt what happened. The furious parents started looking for the accused after that.
"When Chhotu came to his flat on Wednesday evening, the girl's parents and other neighbours caught hold of him and thrashed him, but he managed to escape. We were informed about the trouble in the area after which we went to the spot," said Suresh Bhavar, senior police inspector, Wadala TT police station.
The police then formed three teams which were dispatched to Bandra railway terminus, Kurla railway terminus and another to Mahim where the accused worked. "We found him there with his employer," Bhavar said.
Bhavar said the child had not sustained any injury in the incident and is currently doing fine. She will be taken for a medical examination.
