The Goregaon-Malad belt has seen a lot of development in recent years, and consequently sees a lot of traffic, which is getting bottlenecked at two spots because of potholes: the Malad stretch on SV Road, and the stretch near the flyover that connects Goregaon east and west.
SV Road gets narrow at certain stretches in Malad, near the station, where there is a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Potholes here add to the congestion, especially between Marve road junction and New Era theatre.
“I used to take 20 to 25 minutes to get from Marve road to near Goregaon station in auto. Now it takes me 40 minutes and it costs more,” said Ruchita Shah, a college student.
“At times we ask dumpsters carrying debris to fill the potholes,” said a traffic policeman from Malad division on condition of anonymity.
The stretch near the flyover that connects Goregaon east and west is also riddled with potholes. “Two days ago, there was a big fight between two drivers as their cars hit each other because of potholes,” said Sunanda Gholap, who lives in the area.
“Why don’t the agencies take action against the contractors who build and maintain the roads?” asked Deepak Gupta, who regularly uses SV Road.
