Two domestic carriers –Spicejet and Jet Airways -- launched flash sales on Tuesday for travel over the next two months.
No-frills carrier Spicejet’s three-day sale offered one-way economy class journeys on select routes starting at Rs 899. While fewer routes were on offer compared to the airlines’ similar offers earlier this year, the latest sale covered a good mix of destinations such as Goa, Kochi, Bangalore and Chennai.
Around 7pm, Jet Airways came out with a similar offer. The Jet Air scheme, which is valid for five days starting Tuesday, also offered one-way economy class fares, excluding the government taxes, at 899.
Both the airlines offered the discounted tickets for travel between November 1 and November 15.
“The latest offer from Spicejet is to attract travellers to make early winter season bookings. We definitely expect other major airlines to respond to the sale. We are hoping for a significant rise in bookings over the next few days,” said Sharat Dhall, president, Yatra.com.
Other travel operators concurred. “The sales are aimed at encouraging travel in November and early December, which is a relatively leaner period. Travellers also use this opportunity to upgrade the transport-leg of their holiday to flight, instead of rail or other land travel options,” said Ranjeet Oak, senior vice-president, MakeMyTrip.
