Fog continued to delay suburban and outstation trains on Monday. Commuters on Central Railway (CR) faced problems as trains ran more than 30 minutes late beyond Kalyan.

On the western line, outstation trains such as Rajdhani Express, August Kranti Rajdhani Express, Golden Temple Mail, Swaraj Express and Paschim Express, were running late by eight hours due to Gujjar agitation coupled with the low visibility problem in the early hours. Areas like Vangani, Karjat, Khopoli, Kasara and Kalyan were the worst affected.

Trains and platforms remained crowded as trains reached CST after a gap of 30 minutes. Motormen too were unable to speed beyond 30 kmph due to low visibility. The situation normalised after 9.30am. “The trains were running at a snail’s pace. We could only hope that we would reach office on time,” said Amar Bhanushali, a resident of Kalyan.

WR trains were affected beyond Vasai-Virar belt but the ongoing Gujjar agitation further escalated the problem. Outstation trains arriving in Mumbai were running 10 hours late. The WR diverted 46 long distance trains on Monday.
