The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has registered a case against Jehangir Lawyer, the managing director of a food importing company, for selling expired products after changing the expiry date labels.

FDA officials and the NM Joshi Marg police raided the godowns of Fortune Gourmet Specialities Private Limited at Lower Parel and Bhiwandi on Friday and seized expired food products, mainly cheese and processed meat, worth Rs23 lakh. “He was arrested on Friday for selling food products unfit for health,” said senior police inspector Sudhakar Ghagare. “It is an attempt to cheat consumers,” said S Deshmukh, assistant commissioner, FDA.
