After giving an extension to former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, the two-member Adarsh inquiry commission on Monday granted second extension to another former CM Ashok Chavan. Chavan was granted time till June 20 to file his affidavit.

Chavan is among the three former chief ministers whose names cropped up in the Adarsh scam. While Deshmukh and Chavan have been seeking extensions for filing their affidavits, Sushilkumar Shinde has already submitted his response.

The deposition of SS Jog, the former administrative staff officer to the General Officer in Command of the state army headquarters, began on Monday.

The Adarsh Housing Society is being probed for violation of construction and environmental norms. It was alleged that bureaucrats and politicians used their positions to push through clearances in return for flats at throwaway rates.

The panel was set up in January to probe the scam with reference to specific issues, such as land ownership, reservation of the plot, town planning, coastal violations and the role of public servants.
