The Powai police booked four men in a case of attempt to murder as they tried to kill a 26-year-old, who had accidentally kicked one of the accused on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, who was identified as Satish Chauhan, works in the housekeeping department of a hotel and had gone to visit his brother-in-law at Marva Road in Powai.

According to the police, Chauhan on his way back sat near the pipeline at Marva Road to chat with brother-in-law Naresh Peewal and another relative Vedprakash Peewal, when he accidentally kicked one of the accused – Prakash Yadav, 22, who was arrested on Monday morning.

Yadav and his three friends were allegedly passing by when the incident took place. They started abusing Chauhan and picked up a fight. When Chauhan argued, they hit him with bamboo sticks and also attacked him with a chopper.

Chauhan’s relatives, the Peewals, also suffered injuries when they tried to intervene. Locals then rushed the injured trio to Rajawadi Hospital and are currently under observation.

Police officers investigating the case said they were not aware who the accused were as they fled the spot. Also, they have not been able to record Chauhan’s statement, as he is not in a condition to talk.

“We do not want to reveal the names of the remaining three accused, as they would get alerted,” said Prakash Muktiyal, deputy commissioner of police (zone X).
