Free WR travel for girl students of vocational courses

With an increasing number of students enrolling in professional courses such as MBBS, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Mass Media and others, the western railway (WR) has extended free travel for girl students of such courses.

All girl students enrolled in any course up to graduation level, including diploma courses can avail of free monthly season tickets.

As per existing provisions, girl students studying graduation courses such as B.Com and B.A are eligible for free MSTs for travel between stations serving their school/college to their place of residence. However from July 1, girls studying vocational courses will also be given free passes.

During the announcement of the railway budget 2011-12, it was decided to extend the above-mentioned concession to girl students who are pursuing professional/vocational courses also up to the level of graduation. “Economic independence is very important to bring the girls at par with the males in society,” said Sharat Chandrayan, Chief PRO, western railway.

“Professional courses are receiving good response these days, which is why we are introducing free travel service for girls in this field,” added Chandrayan. The service is available throughout the western railway expect for mails and express trains.
