Lord Ganesha as management guru and a top leader! Yes, that is what a new book, Management Guru - Shri Ganesha, the Lord of Success, by BK Chandra Shekhar, says. When we are in deep trouble and want someone to come to our rescue, it is quite likely that most of us invoke Lord Ganesha.

“Each part of his body and everything associated with him has a significance that can be related to our professional life challenges,” says the author. “Of all the multitudes of deities and gods that constitute Hindu religion, Lord Ganesha is probably one of the most loved and revered of all… Considered to be the god of good beginnings and wisdom, it is in his name that new ventures are undertaken and important decisions made.”

Apart from other things, the author lists 23 crucial skills needed for good leadership, and says Ganesha has them all. From courage to humour to ethics, assertiveness, negotiating skills, problem-solving skills, dissenting power, etc.

An effective manager is one who can adapt himself to all kinds of circumstances without any fear or hesitation. He gets into the very core of the problem and then makes it a point to fix it in the easiest way possible, and in the shortage time. The author compares an effective leader to water which can adapt itself to all kinds of circumstances.

He reminds you of the “ways of water” that any aspiring leader should keep in mind. One can be like ice, solid and stable and in a position to help others in times of their crisis.

Or you can be like a fountain that quenches the thirst of others for understanding and knowledge. Or like a cloud able to rain your knowledge and experience.

And then one can be like a lake reflecting others so that one can understand them. And, lastly, one can be like snow, sparkling and showering the coolness of your mind for the muddled heads.

The confused and the angry should be able to get the light of your qualities so that they return to their state of normalcy.
