The four-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by two teenagers in Bandra (East) on Sunday, was also assaulted with a kitchen knife on her ear, head and hands, the victim’s family said on Tuesday.
Following a complaint from them, the Nirmal Nagar police have arrested the two accused — Hemant (14) and Rohit (17) (names changed).
The girl, a student of junior KG, underwent an operation of her right ear at VN Desai hospital in Santacruz (East).
“She was badly wounded in her right ear, her head and was bleeding profusely. She is still under a state of shock and is recuperating in the ICU ward,” said the victim’s father who is a panipuri vendor.
He said that he would have killed Hemant, but by the time he went to his house, it was already locked.
The incident had occurred when the girl was playing outside her house. The two kidnapped her and took her to Hemant’s house (located just few metres away) where they allegedly raped her.
“After raping the girl, the boys got her out of the house, locked it and fled. Hemant was alone in the house as his father had not returned from work while his mother and sister had gone for a pilgrimage to Shirdi,” said senior inspector Prashant Bagade of the the Nirmal Nagar police station.
“It was a matter of barely half an hour. I was preparing chapatis while she played outside the house,” the victim’s mother told Hindustan Times.
“I thought she might be somewhere around. But after some time, I found her lying unconscious outside the house. She was bleeding profusely,” she added.
The victim’s neighbour said: “Hemant would abuse women in the colony, beat up children and hurl stones at passersby. During Diwali, the police had even arrested him for stealing a bike.”
