A 43-year-old garage owner permanently lost vision in one eye after being assaulted by about 10 people, allegedly sent by a builder.

He alleged that the builder wants him to sell his spacious garage at Malad for a high-rise.

The police said Farooq Patel owns a 8,000-sqft garage in partnership with seven others near Siddharth Nagar in Goregaon (W).

Patel alleged that the Diwan builders’ men had been harassing him for three years. “They had assaulted me many times before and even made fake cases against me and got me arrested by the police,” he said.

The Diwan builders could not be contacted for comment.

Patel told the police that about 10 people barged into his garage with chopper, iron rods and sticks. They allegedly assaulted three of his staff members and grievously injured him on his leg, chest and hand and injured his right eye.

“I will not be able to see again,” said Patel in the Intensive Care Unit of the Bhagwati Hospital, Borivli. He alleged that the police official delayed in filing the FIR although he was bleeding profusely.

Deputy Commissioner of police Sanjay Banerjee refuted the allegations of any delay. “A case of attempt to murder has been lodged against the accused,” he added.

Patel claimed he bought the garage 30 years ago. He said that his mother was so shocked after his assault that she had to be admitted to Cooper Hospital.
