The Mayor of Stuttgart, Wolfgang Schuster, visited the municipal corporation headquarters on Saturday to build a stronger relationship between the sister cities.
“We must share knowledge, understanding, innovation and culture,” said Schuster, adding, “Exchange programme between the two cities will help felicitate knowledge.”
The German contingent that included German Consul-General Walter Stechel met Mumbai Mayor Shraddha Jadhav and Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya.
“Stuttgart and Mumbai have been sister cities since March 1968,” said Kshatriya.
“We are looking for strong cooperation with Stuttgart in terms of water, energy, roads, solid waste management.”
Kshatriya said energy was another concern for Mumbai. “We don’t have our own power plants like Stuttgart does. We have to buy our energy, which can be expensive and at times unreliable. The civic body has for a while been planning to have its own power plant. There’s so much garbage that can be used to acquire energy,” added Kshatriya.
The representatives of the two cities agreed that providing better transport at cheaper rates was a big challenge.
